With Yutong in Mexico, better buses and a better life to love mass transportation

YUTONG AND ITS CONTRIBUTION TO THE QUALITY OF LIFE OF MEXICANS

12 May 2022

Nothing can be more flexible or inclusive than an urban bus: people from all corners of cities, with multiple occupations, come together in a space that rolls through the streets connecting dreams, hopes and opportunities that inhabitants build daily. Enormous challenges and pressures also come to municipal administrations and the automotive industry, to create solutions that improve the quality of life of citizens.

Mexico has some of the largest cities in the world, which have not always grown with order and planning, generating problems of mobility, pollution, lack of agility in displacement and also of means of transport that safely communicate with its inhabitants.

Yutong, the largest bus manufacturer in the world, has been present in Mexico since 2019 with its portfolio of passenger solutions, using two technologies for the main cities of the country, which not only facilitate travel through dedicated corridors, but also contribute to the multimodality, as they accompany the integration with different means of transport.

THE STRONGEST ELECTROMOBILITY

Mexico City, with nearly 22 million inhabitants, is the largest urban agglomeration in the Spanish-speaking world and the ninth on the planet. Mobilizing so many people is a task that is beyond any estimate and, additionally, it must have the characteristics of modern transport in the metropolis: friendly, inclusive, pleasant, integrated, agile, flexible and with low emissions.

In 1951, the trolleybus service began to be offered in the Mexican metropolis, with renewal periods every decade until the 1990s, with the last units launched with locally manufactured bodies. Twenty-two years passed without new additions of trolls in Mexico City, until the contribution of Yutong arrived, which since 2019 has delivered 193 vehicles connected to the electrical network of the large city in single-body and articulated configurations.

From Monday to Sunday, from 5:00 AM until midnight, and even with the Nochebus line, operating at dawn so that the service is never interrupted, Mexican men are prepared for when the city sleeps, everything is ready to guarantee the mobilization of citizens.

“I learned driving my father's car, we have it in our blood, we like driving, and we started with the curiosity of the car. This is somewhat older, very large units, technologically better, the difference in training and handling compared to vehicles is noticeable. We start very early by introducing ourselves to our dispatcher, who gives us our sheet, which we fill out with data, we register, and then we receive the ticket office” Antonio Soto, Driver of the Electric Transport Service (Trolebus)

Antonio then has to go to the dispatch office, to be assigned the vehicle, go to the patio to find it and do the check to ensure that everything works. One of the vital elements of the trolleys are the cables that are connected to the line, which they call "coals" that allow electricity to be conducted to the motors that keep the bus rolling. Making sure they have no problems, they already assign both a route and a destination.

These Yutong ZK5120C (monobody 12 meters) and ZK5180C (articulated 18 meters) buses, which stand out for their very stylized front and the triangular custody-type windows next to the windshield. Designed to offer quiet spaces and pleasant trips, thanks to the ultra-quiet design, which provides superior ride comfort to all occupants.

The great efficiency of these buses is remarkable: not only are they powered by the city's electrical network, but they also have an extra battery for greater autonomy in a trolleybus, since it allows them to travel up to 75 kilometers without using the catenaries and also the regeneration system when decelerating or braking, which helps to recharge the accumulators.

With these 193 new trolleybuses, Mexico City reminds us that electromobility is not a matter of modernity, since electric buses have always been present. Additionally, it reaffirms the city's commitment, with the support of Yutong, to deliver proven solutions, but with significant improvements for life on board for operators and passengers.

JALISCO MULTIMODAL WITH YUTONG

Seven hours from the capital of Mexico, you reach Guadalajara, in the state of Jalisco. This city has been in the news in recent months due to the new mass transportation projects that are being carried out in the area. For several years, Yutong has been learning about the mobilization needs of users in Mexican cities, talking with operators, authorities, and energy providers, among others.

That is why it seeks to have a portfolio of buses that allows a range of options according to the needs of each city, both in internal combustion and electric vehicles. In the state of Aguascalientes, its capital also has 55 Yutong units powered by natural gas, 9.5 meters long, and at the end of 2021, Guadalajara started a pilot with the ZK6116HNG model, using the same technology.

The MiTransporte project was launched in 2019 to put an end to the irregularities of the previous mass mobilization model. Also to ensure that Jalisco had an interconnected, efficient and orderly public transport system. Thus, users who use the service daily in this Mexican state can find modern and comfortable buses, as well as agile and integrated with other means of mobilization.

Abigail García, is a student and every day she has to make long journeys between her university and her residence “I love traveling by bus and seeing my whole city, I am very lucky because now we have this type of transport that saves time and that I love it, they are also very clean and make my arrival much easier”.

For her, saving time thanks to the interconnection is fundamental: “The bus allows me to interconnect with the light rail since I live super far away and now, since this is in my city, I am appreciating it a lot and I love it, now I enjoy more time to dedicate myself to my tasks, projects and be with my family”.

Accessibility and inclusion are also part of those elements that users appreciate, especially for those with reduced mobility. The pneumatic suspension allows the height to be adjusted so that everyone boards easily, a ramp that is very simple to enable, facilitates the entry of people who move in wheelchairs, being able to use the demarcated and comfortable spaces provided for them.

However, no area is wasted and when the preferential spaces for people with reduced mobility are not being used, any passenger can sit and feel the same experience of a quality trip, with very low noise and emissions thanks to the Yutong ZK6116HNG, which roll on the MiTransporte routes.

Cities grow, the infrastructure is modernized for a better quality of life and to create friendly places to live, users have greater needs and are more demanding. For them, the urban Yutong buses are the result of research, adaptability to the metropolis, engineering and innovation placed at the service of all.

Monobody or articulated; hybrids, diesel, gas or electric, both battery and trolleybuses; for narrow roads or large trunk roads, tailored to cities and what their administrations expect. They are the Yutong passenger solutions that roll in Mexico and are available throughout Latin America, to fulfill the commitment to bring better buses to the streets, for a better life.
